I almost didn't post this outfit. I almost didn't post anything at all. I suffered a bit of a blow to my ego recently by being told that my previous outfit wasn't good enough for a certain "post what you wore" community.

I don't really have a lot right now, but I'm doing the best I can with what I have. I'd say I'm sorry if that's not good enough for you, but it would be a lie. I'm not sorry. I can't afford anything from Asos and I couldn't fit into anything from Anthropologie, so if that's the kind of thing you call "style," you're not going to get that from me until the day I get a much, much better income. The thing is, for a long time I didn't put a whole lot of effort into what I wore, so all I'm trying to do is look like I care.

Anyway, I call this outfit "a swing and a miss" because I tried to get it there, and it just didn't make it. It was very comfortable. Also, I'm pretty excited about the skirt, which is the shortest skirt I've worn since I was maybe twelve. The top just isn't doing it for me.

It actually wasn't doing it for me when I first bought it, snapping it up when Old Navy was doing one of their ridiculous clearance sales and I really just wanted something affordable and comfortable that wasn't a t-shirt - and all Old Navy plus is online, so it's not like I could try it on. I thought I'd give it another shot, hoping the skirt would dial down a bit of the frump factor, but I'm still not digging it and I think it shows way too much in the way of wrinkles and such of the skirt underneath. Should I keep trying to work with this top, or should I purge it from my closet?

  1. Boo on whoever made you feel less than awesome by posting an outfit. I think just getting up the nerve to post a photo to a site where tons of people see it is brave, and should be applauded!

Have you thought about trying to tuck the top into the skirt and trying to pull it up to your high waist? Maybe even with a belt, if you've got one. I have found that with some of my more "frumpy" seeming tops, if I pair the top with a tighter bottom (a pencil skirt, or maybe some straight leg jeans) it takes away some of the frump-factor.

  2. I agree with Courtney, I love the top and the color looks fab on you but it's really flowy so it would look more pulled together with a pair of straight jeans.

Hey, we are all a work in progress in this fat fashion world. :) Chin up and have fun! :)

  3. Bah - ignore the haters! The beauty of daily outfit post fashion blogging is sharing what you've got, getting advice, watching your style evolve as you grow and change and seeing what you're wearing in a new light. It doesn't matter if other people don't think your look is "trendy" or "fashion-forward" or whatever enough for some people, it's about you feeling comfortable in your own skin.

And I agree that this is a great colour on you! Tucking in might be the answer, or maybe jewellery or a vest to lift it a bit?!

  4. i'm really impressed with your blog! i never thought about the arrogance that can come with certain blog(gers) and i would also like to say: well done you for being so brave (in many ways) and don't listen to people who cannot even give constructive criticism. showing what you wear in everyday life on the internet is a tough thing to do, especially if you're not ordinary. so keep it up and be an inspiration!
as for the shirt, i'm not too keen, but i find that it will look cooler with slim jeans and a black cami-top underneath :)
