Where the streets have no name

I accidentally deleted my last post on the topic but, yep, I'm still homeless.

I have been homeless for about a month. I blew all of my money staying in a really seedy hotel and driving around because I didn't have much else to do. I ended up having to buy a new AC adapter for my laptop because the last one died, and while I was waiting for that to show up, I paid my library fines so I could use the computers at the library.

It is stinking hot in Texas and sleeping in one's car here is no joke.

Here are a couple of articles related to the topic that I found pretty interesting.

Internet cafe refugees - no friends or prospects, and only a cubicle to call home. Compared to sweating it out in an old SUV, an internet cafe doesn't sound too bad.

A homeless man lived in a New Jersey library for 2 weeks before anybody noticed (and only because he was stealing food). Living in a library would be great. I love libraries! You'd never run out of reading material! Speaking of which... you heard about the Homeless at NYU guy, didn't you? Old news, but still interesting.

Where the Heart Is is one of my favorite books, though I think the movie had a slightly better ending. It's related to the topic because the main character, Novalee Nation, ends up living inside a Wal-mart after being abandoned by her boyfriend until she's taken in by the friends she's made in a strange town.

What I Wish I Wore Today

This would be a nice outfit for some early morning birdwatching, and then maybe a trip to the Farmer's Market or a flea market. Just a casual weekend sort of thing.

I'm probably makin' this up

Shirt: Wal-mart I think?
Cami: Old Navy
Capris: Gloria Vanderbilt via Marshalls
Shoes: American Eagle via Ross
Teeny tiny horseshoe necklace: Gift
Watch: Target

Woah, someone needs to cut the grass.

I took a detail pic of these shoes when I wore them with the "swing and a miss" outfit and never bothered to post it. I wear them a lot, though, so I'll get a detail shot of them soon!

I don't normally go into mall stores like AE because nothing there would fit me, so it's easy to forget that they have other things like shoes and jewelry. My favorite perfume is actually a fragrance I bought from Pacific Sunwear - because an employee was standing at the entrance of the store and asked if I wanted a sample.

Anyway, I wore this to a training for the summer school program I mentioned in my last post. I also got rained on, which explains my crankypants expression. I'll try to be more cheerful in the future.

Wow, I have been so busy lately! I'm still going through my teacher certification stuff and applying for positions at various schools, still working at the museum, and have also been going through training for a summer school program that integrates the arts with core subjects that will be starting next week. My background is in science, but for the camp I will be a visual arts instructor for 2nd and 3rd grade. Cool, right?

Anyway, I wore this today for an interview for a middle school science teaching position that would start this autumn. I'm super excited about the possibility of teaching at this school, and I think the interview went pretty well. Wish me luck!

Dress uniform

Thought I'd try out this whole Polyvore thing with a couple of looks based on dresses.
I was a huge tomboy growing up, so it seems a little strange for me to gravitate toward wearing dresses... but they're just so easy! Instead of having to find a top and bottom that can coordinate, you have the whole thing put together, and all you need to do is add accessories and shoes!

And even though I'm not a fan of this trend toward rompers, they do have some appeal for the same reason - they're a ready made outfit. Just grab and go!

For these collages I picked a couple of dresses I've been lusting over from eShakti and Coldwater Creek. Click on each picture for details.

A swing and a miss

I almost didn't post this outfit. I almost didn't post anything at all. I suffered a bit of a blow to my ego recently by being told that my previous outfit wasn't good enough for a certain "post what you wore" community.

I don't really have a lot right now, but I'm doing the best I can with what I have. I'd say I'm sorry if that's not good enough for you, but it would be a lie. I'm not sorry. I can't afford anything from Asos and I couldn't fit into anything from Anthropologie, so if that's the kind of thing you call "style," you're not going to get that from me until the day I get a much, much better income. The thing is, for a long time I didn't put a whole lot of effort into what I wore, so all I'm trying to do is look like I care.

Anyway, I call this outfit "a swing and a miss" because I tried to get it there, and it just didn't make it. It was very comfortable. Also, I'm pretty excited about the skirt, which is the shortest skirt I've worn since I was maybe twelve. The top just isn't doing it for me.

It actually wasn't doing it for me when I first bought it, snapping it up when Old Navy was doing one of their ridiculous clearance sales and I really just wanted something affordable and comfortable that wasn't a t-shirt - and all Old Navy plus is online, so it's not like I could try it on. I thought I'd give it another shot, hoping the skirt would dial down a bit of the frump factor, but I'm still not digging it and I think it shows way too much in the way of wrinkles and such of the skirt underneath. Should I keep trying to work with this top, or should I purge it from my closet?
